How is it transmitted ?

Syphilis is one of the sexually transmitted diseases that can be transmitted through any form of sexual contact.This does not mean that intercourse is required for transmission, as long as simple skin contact is enough to transmit the bacterium, which enters the body through micro-erosions of the skin. Syphilis is also transmitted from mother to fetus during pregnancy, especially if the mother is in the 1st or 2nd stage of the disease.

 

How long does it take to incubate ?

The pathogen is incubated for a period of 1 week to 3 months, but usually the first symptoms appear after 3 weeks.

 

What are the symptoms ?

The symptoms of syphilis, which manifest in three stages if left untreated, are the following:

In adults:

* Primary painless ulcers that appear for about two weeks at the site of infection and then it may disappear even without treatment

* After the ulcers` healing, skin rashes and flu-like symptoms appear

* After several years, serious symptoms may appear, such as blindness, heart disease, disabilities.

In infants:

* Rash, mainly on the palms and soles

* Liver and spleen damage, alopecia, otitis, laryngitis

* Damage to the bones and nervous system

• In old age, damage to the eyes (even blindness) and ears (even deafness).

 

How is it treated ?

 Syphilis is treated with medication – especially in the first two stages of the disease – which includes taking antibiotics, such as penicillin or tetracycline, and then long-term regular blood tests to rule out recurrence with early treatment.

 

How can it be prevented ?

 Syphilis, like all sexually transmitted diseases, is prevented by safe sexual intercourse. However, the best way to prevent the spread of the disease is to avoid sexual contact until you haveovercome the infection.

There are two types of the herpes virus, 1 and 2.

1 is the virus of the known cold sores, while 2 is that of the genitals.

Lastly, due to the change in sexual habits, type 1 starts and appears more often in the genitals.

First infection is followed by recurrences whose frequency depends on factors such as menstruation, mental and physical stress, microbial infections, influenza, prolonged sun exposure, etc.

Clinically, the known blisters appear accompanied by mild to very severe pain and itching lasting from 1-2 to 2-4 weeks.

Treatment includes antiviral drugs for about 5 days or if the disease recurs more than 6 times a year a treatment regimen that lasts about 1 year is given.

Where do warts appear?

 They are mainly found in the genitals and the surrounding areas. They often appear in the perianal area, while less oftenon the face – mouth or other areas of the body.

How are warts transmitted?

Symptoms

 Many people with the disease may have no symptoms. When present, they occur 2 to 10 days after transmission and microbial infestation.
