Chickenpox

What is chickenpox ?

It is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the varicella zoster virus. Transmission occurs either by droplets or by direct contact with the lesions. The incubation period lasts about two weeks, and the rash may be accompanied by general malaise and fever. The rash, which lasts about a week, consists of blisters.

In adults the symptoms can be more severe, with serious complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis and hepatitis.

Treatment only concerns about the symptoms of the disease or its complications.
