Contact Dermatitis

What is contact dermatitis ?

Contact dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease caused by direct contact with an irritant or allergen. It is a common skin disease usually characterized by itching, redness, dryness and blisters. Sometimes it looks like a burn. Irritants are soaps, detergents, and other chemicals. Allergic contact dermatitis is caused if you come in direct contact with substances to which you are allergic, such as poison ivy, certain medicines, perfumes, etc.

Contact dermatitis is not generally a serious disease, but there is a possibility of complications, such as a secondary bacterial or fungal infection of the rash. Early diagnosis and treatment can only be done by a dermatologist who will immediately relieve you and save you from complications.
