What Is Dermatitis ?

Dermatitis is a broad term for inflammation of the skin and includes contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and eczema. Contact dermatitis has many possible causes. Ιt may be due to a plant or certain fruits. It can also be due to some household chemical cleaners such as disinfectants, soaps and acetone, while we should not exclude cosmetics and skin care products.

Contact dermatitis can also be caused by some nickel jewelry, plastic gloves and new clothes before washing.

Seborrheic dermatitis can cause dandruff or dermatitis, even in babies. The cause is unknown, but stress can make things worse.

Eczema is characterized by a red, usually itchy rash that breaks and wounds the skin. Some of the areas that are infected are the face, hands, elbows and knees. Eczema is caused by irritation of the outer layers of the skin. Although this irritation is usually caused by external causes such as cleaning fluids or woolen fabrics, it can also be caused by psychological factors such as stress Also a very common cause of eczema is food.

Foods that can cause an allergic reaction resulting in eczema are cow’s milk, eggs, wheat, nuts. Other allergens are pollen, dust mites, wool, sharp objects and zippers.

Eczema is common in families as well as other family members may suffer from asthma or allergic rhinitis.

Treatment

The various treatments aim to soothe the skin. Fortunately, today there are specialized drugs without cortisone, which are prescribed only by dermatologists specializing in the treatment of dermatitis.

In case of an allergic reaction, your doctor may try to determine which substances are causing it.
