What is a keratoacanthoma ?

Keratoacanthoma is a common benign skin lesion that occurs in middle-aged people and it can develop into squamous cell carcinoma. It mainly grows on exposed skin such as the central part of the face, arms and legs.

Several factors are thought to play a role in its development such as sunlight, injury, chemicals, immune mechanisms, genetic and viral factors.

If the tumor is left untreated it subsides, resulting in an unsightly scar.

 If squamous cell carcinoma is suspected, it should be removed or treated.
